Alexander Theroux's collection, Godfather Drosselmeier's Tears and Other Poems, gathers a number of poems that were written in the years following the publication of his celebrated Collected Poems (2015). Alongside the title poem—a sort of apologia pro vita sua—this volume offers an astonishing range of subjects, polymathic in scope and more than 300 poems in total.

Of the breadth of his themes, Theroux gestures toward Emily Dickinson's luminous assertion: "I dwell in possibility." Dickenson once declared, "They say that God is everywhere, and yet we always think of Him as somewhat of a recluse." Theroux responds, "I daresay, an integral part of the possibilities she and I acknowledge is simply the process of seeking Him out."
